With the reconstruction of war-damaged monuments in Germany after 1945, a trend in monument
preservation theory developed that is characterized by the term «creative monument preservation.» This
refers to the documentation of necessary repair measures on the existing, damaged building fabric not in a
formally direct but rather in a deliberately abstract, differentiated manner
The seminar will address the positions of Hans Döllgast (Alte Pinakothek in Munich), Carlo Scarpa
(Castelvecchio in Verona), Karljosef Schattner (building for the Chair of Journalism in Eichstätt), Luigi
Snozzi (former Augustinian Convent in Monte Carasso), Gottfried Böhm (Saarbrücken Palace), Franco
Stella (Humboldt Forum in Berlin), and David Chipperfield (James Simon Gallery in Berlin) Meeting Point Freitag, 25.04.2025 at 10:15 a.m., in front of room 01-U62
