In the „Feuerhalle“ project, we want to address the architectural context of a crematorium. Using a concrete framework of location, spatial program and functional necessities, we want to investigate which fundamental processes and procedures form the basis of such a place and which potentials open up here for our own typological and atmospheric interpretation. By looking at the possible roles that people take on in this context and how they interact, social and spatial needs evolve. This raises the question of when a simple volumetric operation becomes value-creating, or how defining and designing physical space creates different atmospheres and individual human perception.
In addition to the discussion of context, we would like to further deepen the research of digital representation in real time up to VR in this design. How can this focus contribute to further articulating our own design process and its communication? Which atmospheres, spatial moments and intentions can only be represented in this medium? The design is intended as potential group work and combines presence and digital critique rounds. Suitable hardware with a dedicated graphics card is required for active participation (at least GTX 1060 or M1 Pro). A one-day excursion to various built works is planned as an introduction to the topic.
