Semester project
A small architectural competition is currently taking place in Wallisellen, a small(er) town in the vicinity of Zürich. After a round of applications five teams were invited to submit their proposals by the end of January. And we will be simply tagging along in at the same time. Welcome to the daily grind
For many design architects their daily routine at the office involves taking part in competitions. Two months of intensive work, then a long wait and finally: nothing, again. This semester, however, it’s not about «nothing, again». Using an actual example, we’ll see where the magic lies in a small, everyday task.
The city needs a new emergency shelter, the total area is no larger than two single family homes. Apart from a few minor adjustments, we’ll follow the program.
The only changes are, that we are building a model and nothing needs to be demolished.
The winning project of the actual competition should also be determined by the time of our final submission. Pastiche
According to the critics, a pastiche is a rather clumsy work of set pieces of great art, perhaps a collage of mediocrity. And yet: quoting, collaging, merging influences and spinning on from the existing is not only the basis for the Beastie Boys, Terry Gilliam and Marcel Duchamp. Even the most controversially influential urban planning epoch in Central Europe – the historicist Gründerzeit – is nothing other than: Pastiche Registration via OLAT (password pastiche#10). Weekly via Zoom, one to two on-site appointments. Maximum of 15 participants.
