London is known not only for its historic buildings and modern skyline, but also for its striking Brutalist architecture. In the course of our excursion we will visit some of the most significant examples of this period.
We will explore buildings such as the Barbican Centre, a multifunctional cultural complex and one of the most significant examples of British Brutalism, the Trellick Tower, an iconic residential tower block known for its striking appearance and social significance, the National Theatre with its massive concrete façade & innovative interiors and of course The Economist Building by Alison and Peter Smithson.
During our excursion we will both explore the architectural features of these buildings and discuss their historical significance and influence on the modern urban landscape of London.
We will also look at buildings by contemporary architects whose operate at the juncture between historical architecture and the trends of the 20th century, for example Stephen Taylor, Caruso St John and Sergison Bates.
We look forward to discovering the exciting architecture of London with you.
Arrival and departure are to be organised independently. Arrival on Sunday. We will book the accommodation from Sunday to Saturday. The cost of the excursion will be around €500.
