Even the slightest placement – drawing a straight line on a piece of paper – creates a spatiality that not only encompasses the form of what is actually drawn, but also imagines a surrounding space. Why do we see it that way? Why are we satisfied with the fact that a single line describes two completely different things? Why do we so readily overlook the absurdity of this non-uniqueness? So how do three-dimensional bodies and their two-dimensional representations actually relate to each other? These questions have been driving me crazy for a long time (a final solution is not in sight). I see them as a driving force and a challenge that can open up an immense number of fields of action.
