Begin:

Place:
Lehrgebiet Raumgestalt
The sociologist Max Weber understands the ideal type as «a coherent conceptual structure that can only be found approximately in reality and therefore has a utopian character.»¹
In the seminar, it will be examined whether the ideal type can be applied in the architectural design phase and what potential it holds. For this purpose, publications on type, structure, proportion, and grid will be read, and built examples as well as published projects will be analyzed.
The insights gained will be tested in parallel through a series of design experiments.
The course can be taken either as a seminar or an elective by students from the 6th semester onwards.
Meetings every other week by arrangement. ¹Dieckmann, Johann. “Die Rationalität Des Weberschen Idealtypus.” Soziale Welt 18, No. 1, 1967
